Studio project intro – Chiswick House

Last year we had our first semester project on a National Trust site right outside Kingston, called Ham house and gardens.

This year the projects will take place in and around Chiswick House not far from Richmond. Chiswick house, built in the years form 1726-29, was designed and commissioned by the 3rd Earl of Burlington and is one of the finest example of the English Classical architecture known as Palladianism, deriving from the buildings of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580).

These first few weeks have been much about understanding the building and documenting different aspects of it through drawings and photos. It is the first time that i have visited it, and it is impressing (as always) coming to these extraordinary English villas and houses and compare to what I am used to from Norway…
