Soap stone – surfaces

We had a project a while ago looking at a material and study an aspect of its tectonic quality that we found interesting. So I chose to work with stone. The first time we submitted the work, I had used a really solid natural stone that was too hard for the diamond cutter here. So I almost failed the project…… I decided to try again, and this time use soap stone. It is such a soft stone and easy to work with. This project was linked to a previous project, and so the surfaces are inspired by stone pavement from the previous project.

The pieces were quite big and irregular, and weighed 30 kg all in all. They were cut down to 12x12x24 cm
