London Design Festival is about to end, however, the opening night of one quite speciall architectural project was today. Together with Concrete Canvas, Timothy Hatton Architects (THA) are to construct a freestanding pavilion for this years festival.
The structure is made out of concrete canvas, a textile material which hardens once saturated with water, and becomes solid after two hours. It is therefore possible to shape it in whatever form you want and let it get solid. The project aims to show how one can easily and quickly use concrete canvas to make shelters in areas of disaster, and gives THA an opportunenty to experiment with a material that ideally can be used to translate ideas into solutions for permanent structures.
